Bruce was raised in Preston, Idaho. His childhood home was three doors down from Pedro’s house. After graduating high school he attended the University of Idaho as an undergraduate, where he was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and was a recipient of the University of Idaho Alumni Award for Excellence. He also was in the Army ROTC program and earned the honor of Distinguished Military Graduate. Upon graduation he served in the United States Army as a Field Artillery officer, serving in the 4th Infantry Division. He then went to law school at Brigham Young University, where he was a Senior Editor of the BYU Law Review. While in law school Bruce also served in the Utah Army National Guard. Upon graduation from law school Bruce and his family moved to Boise, where he clerked for Chief Justice Linda Copple Trout of the Idaho Supreme Court. He then began private practice, working at two separate law firms over sixteen years, becoming a shareholder and senior attorney at a mid-sized Boise firm.

Bruce has been representing employers of every size throughout his career. From small businesses with just a few employees to a former NASDAQ 100 Silicon Valley tech corporation, Bruce understands the varying needs of employers when it comes to their employees and the issues they face. Bruce specializes in assisting employers as they navigate the complexities and difficulties of employment law issues from the time the issue arises until the matter concludes, whether that is through a positive resolution in the workplace or through the administrative or judicial process. Bruce has been there with employers every step of the way. He has extensive experience in both advising on and in litigating issues that arise under the many state and federal laws that govern employers both private and public, including the ADA, Title VII, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, the Idaho Human Rights Act, and others. He can assist in helping employers chart out the best path to avoid legal liability, and then in implementing that plan. And if necessary, he can also represent them in litigation. His advice is practical, pragmatic, and aimed at not only solving the problem at hand but helping avoid future issues.

As a litigator Bruce has tried cases in state and federal court and has argued appeals in front of the Idaho Court of Appeals, the Idaho Supreme Court, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit. He has also regularly represented clients before the Idaho Human Rights Commission, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and other state and federal agencies. He is admitted in Idaho state and federal courts, the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, and the United States Supreme Court.

Bruce is married and has four boys. When not helping clients he enjoys exploring the outdoors, kayaking, playing tennis, and writing.
